Begin the New Year with a Healthy start. The Human Services Division has a number of opportunities for older adults 55+ interested in getting fit.

Exercise

Free, low impact exercise classes are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 – 10 a.m. at Creekside Community Center. Pre-registration is not required. Stop in and get in shape when it’s convenient for you.

Dakim Brain Fitness System

This unique touch screen computer program is designed to engage aging adults with mentally stimulating exercises to improve quality of life and to maintain brain health. Dakim is free to use and no computer skills are necessary. Questions are tailored to your interests and hobbies. Individuals may use the system once a month or up to once a day. Contact Human Services at Creekside for more information and to sign up.

Wii Bowling

Wii bowlers
Keep active and have fun playing Nintendo’s Wii bowling. This computer simulated game provides many opportunities for playing bowling and other sports such as tennis, baseball, and more. Wii players meet Fridays at 1 p.m. at Creekside.

Eat Healthy and Save Money

Fare For All

The Fare For All grocery buying program is available to everyone who wants to save 30-40% on groceries. A variety of food packages are available to choose from for $10-$20 and include nutritious foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, rice, beans, and pasta.

New customers can register and pre-pay for food packages at Creekside in January; then pick up the food in February. First quarter registration and distribution dates are January 21, February 18, and March 17 from 10-11a.m. Find a full list of 2012 distribution dates online: 2012 Fare For All Flyer.  Participants are encouraged to volunteer a couple hours each month in their community. This program is co-sponsored by the Emergency Foodshelf Network.

Buyer’s Club

Buyer's Club
Save time and money by shopping at the Buyer’s Club located in room 103 at Creekside. The Buyer’s Club is a food mini-market operated by older adult volunteers. It offers fresh produce, staples, dry baking products, pasta, and nuts. The Buyer’s Club is open Thursdays, 9-11:15 a.m. and 12:30-1:30 p.m. You do not need to be a member to shop at the Buyer’s Club.

City Diner

Enjoy a hot, nutritious meal at 11:30 a.m. Monday-Friday at the Creekside  City Diner. Find our monthly menu online: City Diner Menu. Reservations are required 2 days in advance. Meal cost is a suggested contribution of $0-3 for guests age 60+ (NAPIS form required) and $6 for guests under 60. Meals are prepared by Optage Senior Dining. Tax Preparation Services

Free income tax assistance will be available at Creekside Community Center

Tax assistance will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis to individuals who meet income-qualifying guidelines.

AccountAbility Minnesota
Qualifying guidelines: $30,000 or less for individuals and $50,000 or less for families.
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 24 - April 17
    5:30 - 9:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays, beginning January 28 - April 14
    8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays, March 3-31
    8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
AARP Tax-Aide
Qualifying guidelines: will provide free tax preparation services to taxpayers with middle to low income with special attention to people age 60 and older.
  • Mondays and Tuesdays, February 6 - April 17
    9 a.m. - Noon.
  • Fridays, March 16 - April 13
    9 a.m. - Noon.
Taxpayers with complex tax returns are advised to seek paid tax assistance.

The Human Services Division is partnering with AccountAbility Minnesota and AARP Tax-Aide to make these programs available. Contact Creekside for more information.


Celebrate Year of the Dragon

Human Services invites you to celebrate Year of the Dragon on Monday, January 23, 11:30 a.m. at Creekside. An Asian themed meal will be served followed by a performance by CAAM Chinese Dance Theater. Meal cost is a suggested contribution of $0-3 for guests age 60+ (NAPIS form required) and $6 for guests under 60.To make a reservation call 952-563-4948 or email: reservations@ci.bloomington.mn.us. Reservations deadline is Thursday, January 19 or until lunch is sold out.

Lunch Reservation Policy

Effective January 1, 2012, reservations will be accepted for special lunch events (Parties and Memorable Mondays) up to 3 months in advance. Reservations made prior to January 1st will be honored.

We are currently accepting reservations for the following events:
