 More than 2,000 people came out to Valley View Playfield for the 16th annual Kite Day celebration Saturday, May 7.
The event celebrated Bloomington's children with kite flying, entertainment, inflatables, along with interactive and educational booths. 975 free kites were distributed to those 18 and younger.
Mayor Gene Winstead, Councilmember Dwayne Lowman and Metropolitan Council Member Steve Elkins were present at the event.

Annually, the Human Services Division sponsors a poetry contest that runs May - July, with a reception in August. This contest is for individuals 50+ and adults with a disability.
Submission guidelines:
- No entry fee
- Participants may submit up to two poems of any length
- Poems may be written in either free verse or traditional forms
- Poems must be original or unpublished
- Typed poems are strongly encouraged, but handwritten poems will be accepted
- A separate cover sheet must be included with the title of the poem and author's contact information - no personal contact information on the poem itself
- Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you wish to receive contest results

Join Human Services for the Power of Laughter - Stress Management Workshop Thursday, June 16, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. at Creekside Community Center (9801 Penn Ave. S., Bloomington, MN 55431).
This workshop is designed to help you overcome the life challenges that have caused you stress and disease for months, years, or even decades through the power of laughter. Learn techniques to help regain your vitality, joy, and peace.
Class is $10. Space is limited. Registration is required by Thursday, June 9.
 Human Services sponsors the homeowners and renters free property tax preparation for low-middle income individuals and families at Creekside Community Center Monday, June 18, 9 a.m.
AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will help complete Minnesota property tax and renters refund returns. No appointments. Walk-in only.

Let's Go Fishing is back for the summer! Enjoy the day fishing on the lake:

A Minnesota fishing license is required for those under 90 years of age. Life jackets, fishing rods, gear, and a snack will be provided. A cooler is available if you bring your own lunch.
Cost is $12. Accessible transportation is provided.
