Flu Shot Clinics

Bloomington Human Services and Public Health are hosting flu shot clinics at Creekside Community Center.

September dates:

Wednesday, September 23, 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Tuesday, September 29, 5 - 6:30 p.m.

These clinics are open to all. No appointment is necessary. No cost. Please bring your insurance card or let us know if you do not have insurance.

Other upcoming dates:

Wednesday, October 14, 10:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. and 5 - 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, December 9, 10:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.


Helping Hands

Flower Club Video

 The Human Services Flower Club, a program for individuals 50+ were able to lend their helping hands to a Bloomington resident who no longer is able to tend to her own garden.  

Check out the story on how this group of ladies are able to see beauty beyond the weeds. 


Living Well Expo

Stop by Civic Plaza Saturday, September 26, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. for the Living Well Expo.  The expo will feature a variety of exhibitor booths, a cooking demonstration, tours of the Farmers Market, breakout sessions on a variety of topics and lots more!

This year's theme is Live, Laugh, Love!

Businesses and organizations providing services to assist adults 50+ live a healthy, happy and fulfilling life are invited to participate.


When Polio Came Home

When Polio Came To Town

Connie Anderson shares stories from her book, "When Polio Came Home: How Ordinary People Overcame Extraordinary Challenges" Tuesday, September 29, 10 - 11 a.m.  Hear how families overcame extraordinary challenges in the 1940s and 1950s during the polio outbreak. 

Free to attend. Coffee and treats provided. Reservations required by Monday, September 28.


NEW Fitness Programs

The Human Services programs for individuals 50+ have new fitness classes for the fall:

Tai Chi 

  • Thursdays, 8 - 9 a.m. 
  • 6-week session: October 8 - November 12
  • Learn exercises and techniques of breathing, stretching and meditation.

Silver Sneakers® Flex
Cardio and Strength

  • Tuesdays, 9 - 10 a.m. 
  • 6-week sessions: September 29 - November 3 and November 10 - December 15
  • Improve cardiovascular fitness, as well as maintain or increase bone density, flexibility, range of motion, muscle tone and coordination.

Strength and Balance

  • Fridays, 9 - 10 a.m.
  • 6-week sessions: September 18 - October 23 and October 30 - December 4
  • Combines light cardio and strength training for individuals who want to improve muscle tone, flexibility, range of motion, balance and coordination.

Fun for the WHOLE Family

Open House and Safety Fest

The Creekside Community Center Open House and Safety Fest will feature activities designed to keep you and your loved ones safe.  Stop by Saturday, October 3, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Free to attend.

Visit with leaders from programs for individuals 50+, tour police and fire vehicles and attend breakout sessions on safety topics. Home Depot will provide a kids build-it and adult DIY workshops. Enjoy live music, pony rides and complimentary refreshments.


Free Shred Event

Do you have documents you need to get rid of? The free shred event will take place Saturday, October 3, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. in the Northeast parking lot of Public Works (1700 W. 98th St., Bloomington, MN 55431).


Staying Independent

H.O.M.E. Program

The Household & Outside Maintenance for Elderly (HOME Program) provides low cost services to help seniors continue to live independently in their own homes.  

The City of Bloomington contributes to fund these services for residents.

Services include housekeeping, handyman tasks, outdoor work and painting.
