New sample drop sites for poultry producers
Poultry producers have more options to drop off avian influenza samples for testing. Remote sites are available in Swanville and Melrose for producers who don't want to travel to the MPTL in Willmar. Site details and hours of operation are available on the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association members website.
Please note: all samples must have a lab submission form attached.
Bunny biosecurity and the continued threat of RHDV2
Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus 2 was confirmed in Minnesota in the fall of 2021. The Board responded quickly by authorizing a domestic vaccine to be administered by Minnesota veterinarians. The rabbit owner community and veterinarians specializing in rabbits quickly mobilized outreach and vaccination events to protect pets from RHDV2.
However, diseases are always on the move and it's a good idea to stay vigilant year-round. Speak to your veterinarian if you'd like to get your rabbits vaccinated, and keep a strong biosecurity plan in place to lower disease risks. Review the Board's biosecurity recommendations for rabbit owners.
