 MTO Update

Change can sneak up on you; don’t get left behind!
The switch to Paymentus is happening this weekend. Are you ready?

If this is the first message you are receiving about this Michigan Treasury Online (MTO) change, get caught up at michigan.gov/MTOPaymentus. There, you will also find a new resource: the MTO Paymentus FAQs page - created based questions from MTO stakeholders just like you!

Recap

  • Treasury’s banking partner, JP Morgan Chase, is changing the payment platform available through MTO.
  • The way you use MTO to interact with Treasury (including the process to file and pay business taxes) is NOT changing.
  • The new payment platform, Paymentus, offers new and improved functionality - including same day payments. It goes live this Saturday, April 13, 2024.
  • The payment platform upgrade DOES NOT mean that all business taxpayers must now file or pay electronically through MTO. Business taxes electronic filing and payment requirements are not changing.
  • As always, protecting taxpayer information and preparing you for change is Treasury’s top priority.

What should you do today?
If you have not done so already (and if you are currently making payments through MTO using a checking or savings account), connect with your financial institution to verify if the applicable bank account has an active ACH Debit Block. If the bank account has an ACH Debit Block, you must provide your financial institution with the updated Company ID for Paymentus: 0000408976 - it takes effect beginning April 13, 2024.

If you make payments through MTO using a debit card/credit card/bank account without ACH Debit Block or if you make Treasury business tax payments outside MTO, you do not need to take any action with your financial institution in preparation for the Paymentus implementation. You can expect your payments to process just as they do today.

Planning ahead

  • MTO will be unavailable beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET on Friday, April 12, 2024. MTO service will return at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 13, 2024.
  • Your previously saved MTO payment information will securely transfer to the new payment platform. You will be able to access it and use it when you are ready to schedule the next business tax payment through MTO.

What’s next?
You will receive another message from us on Saturday after Paymentus goes live. In that message we will provide you with a tutorial to help you successfully navigate the new MTO payment platform when it’s time for you to make the next business tax payment.
