Reminder
MI Student Aid adds responses to the Michigan Achievement Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regularly for students and families as well as institutions as we receive questions.
Do Michigan Achievement Scholarship award amounts need to be adjusted based on financial aid census? For example; a student was enrolled at three-quarter time at the census date and has since added another class, making them full-time, how do we proceed?
Census date is not a factor for State financial aid programs. Institutions should monitor and award students based on their actual enrollment levels. If a student adds or drops courses resulting in an enrollment change, aid should be adjusted accordingly.
For withdrawals where charges were incurred, please see page 65 of the 2023-24 State Programs Procedures Manual.
If a Professional Judgement (PJ) for a student resulting in a change of Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is processed, how should institutions communicate this with Student Scholarships, Grants and Outreach (SSGO)?
If the PJ results in a new EFC, institutions should make updates to the student’s record in MiSSG using the following instructions.
- Log into MiSSG and select the student’s Michigan Achievement Scholarship profile.
- Select “Update Application Information.”
- Update their EFC and select the EFC update reason as “Professional Judgement.”
- Save.
- Enter a comment for the student you’ve made changes to.
This process will also update their eligibility status, so long as there are no other ineligible reasons preventing a student from being eligible.
