We encourage you to view the checklist below to ensure your students are completing the necessary steps to receive the Michigan Achievement Scholarship:
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), eligibility will be determined by having an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $25,000 or less.
- Be sure to list the eligible Michigan institution they plan to attend first on the college choice order section of the FAFSA.
- Enroll full-time at an eligible institution within 15 months of high school graduation or earning a high school equivalency certificate.
- Create a MiSSG Student Portal account. Note: Michigan Achievement Scholarship eligibility status is currently unavailable in MiSSG Student Portal accounts. Sign-up for emails to be the first to hear when that feature becomes available.
As your students begin to make their college decision, there is an important step that they must take to secure their financial aid from the State of Michigan.
MI Student Aid Must Know Where Students Plan To Attend!
In order for MI Student Aid to send awards to the correct institution, students must list the Michigan institution they plan to attend first on the college choice order section of the FAFSA.
There are three ways students can update the college choice (students only need to use one of these methods):
- Create a MiSSG Student Portal Account and make their school selection (Step-by-Step Instructions For Changing Institutions).
- Call our Customer Care Center at 1-888-447-2687.
- Log into the FAFSA and ensure the correct institution is listed first.
After the student has completed this step, there is no other action they need to take in MiSSG to secure their potential Michigan Achievement Scholarship award. If there are additional items needed, the institution or MI Student Aid will contact them.
