Fostering Success Michigan (FSM) is a statewide initiative focused on postsecondary access and success for youth with experience in foster care. FSM and MI Student Aid are working in partnership to create a comprehensive list of Financial Aid Champions for youth with experience in foster care at every postsecondary institution in Michigan.
Since 2015, FSM and MI Student Aid have worked together to identify professionals in financial aid offices across Michigan that are prepared to help students with experience in foster care. These Champions are aware of the resources available to students and are able to help complete forms, access scholarships, understand tuition and financial aid, and more! We are currently updating our list of Champions and hope that you will consider being a point person on your campus for these students!
Each Champion will receive an informational toolkit containing guides, resources and program information to refer to when assisting students. We will also be offering a FREE virtual training on March 27 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. that will provide an overview of the financial resources available in Michigan for youth with experience in foster care and provide information on best practices to serve students on your campus! As an FSM Financial Aid Champion, you will be looped into the FSM Network, with access to resources and connections to other professionals on campuses across the state.
