All Driver Responsibility Fees Waived on
Oct. 1, 2018
LANSING, Mich. – Individuals
with outstanding Driver Responsibility Fees can receive early fee relief by
participating in a workforce development program, according to the Michigan
Department of Treasury.
In partnership with the
Michigan Works! Association and Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, individuals
with outstanding Driver Responsibility Fees can enroll in a 10-hour workforce
development program and have their fees waived upon completion. The program is
designed to provide knowledge and training that integrates participants into
the workforce effectively while promoting growth and skill diversity.
“I am pleased to offer
this early relief option to those individuals with outstanding Driver Responsibility
Fees,” State Treasurer Nick Khouri said. “The workforce development program provides
career enrichment with a path to getting back on the road and back to work.”
Qualifying individuals
interested in participating in the program should visit their nearest Michigan
Works! American Jobs Center. To find a nearby location, go to www.michiganworks.org
or call 800-285-9675.
“Eliminating fees will remove financial, work-related barriers for a
large number of Michiganders who are able and willing to work,” said Luann
Dunsford, chief executive officer of the Michigan Works! Association. “This
partnership provides a unique opportunity to participate in workforce programs
with getting people on the road and back to work as the end goal.”
Individuals who do not participate in a workforce development program are
still responsible for paying their Driver Responsibility Fees. For payment plan
options, affected persons are asked to contact the state Treasury Department at
1-800-950-6227.
Once entered into a payment plan or completing a workforce development
program, individuals who have no additional license actions pending may be
eligible to reinstate their driver’s license without paying a reinstatement fee
through Dec. 31, 2018. All Driver
Responsibility Fees will be completely relieved and no further payments will be
collected after Oct. 1, 2018.
Driver Responsibility Fees have been waived for individuals who were
on a payment plan on or before Feb. 1, 2018.
“Driver Responsibility
Fees hit hardest on working families who could least afford it,” Secretary of
State Ruth Johnson said. “Individuals who complete a workforce training program
can start fresh and free from these fees so I encourage people to participate
now.”
