Hamtramck SOS office relocating, will be closed Dec. 8-12

New office to benefit customers, staff with improved features

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – The Secretary of State Hamtramck Area PLUS Office will be closed for several days in December as it moves to a new location nearby that features customer friendly upgrades, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson announced today.

Customers and staff will benefit from upgrades that include a larger lobby, accessible public restrooms, power-assist door openers, ample parking, new counters, paint and carpeting. The office also will offer 24/7 access to a Self-Service Station, which provides a convenient option for customers renewing their license plate tabs.

The Secretary of State office at 8717 Joseph Campau St. will be closed as of Monday, Dec. 8, and will reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, at 9001 Joseph Campau St. The new location is two blocks north of its existing location.

Office hours remain unchanged: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

“The features of this new office are part of our commitment to continuously improving and providing convenient customer service while being efficient with taxpayer dollars,” Johnson said. “Area residents can now do many transactions with us online at ExpressSOS.com but when they do visit, they can enjoy the benefits of this office.”

ExpressSOS.com offers a convenient alternative for renewing license plates, driver’s licenses and state ID cards. Online license plate renewal allows customers to “print-n-go” by printing a copy of their new registration to use until their tabs arrive in the mail. Easy-to-follow instructions can be found with the renewal notice. Additional services can be done online as well.

Those who need to visit a Secretary of State office for services during the relocation have nearby alternatives to the Hamtramck office:

  • Detroit SUPER!Center, 3046 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit
  • Detroit Livernois, 17500 Livernois Ave., Detroit
  • SW Detroit PLUS, 2835 Bagley, Detroit
  • Detroit East 8 Mile, 9560 E. 8 Mile Road, Detroit

The Detroit Livernois and Detroit East 8 Mile offices are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The SW Detroit PLUS Office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The Detroit SUPER!Center is open for the same hours as the PLUS office and also on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
