LANSING, Mich. – Secretary of State Ruth Johnson announced today that her office will assist customers at the 5th Annual Michigan Boating Industries Association Boating and Outdoor Festival this weekend. The event takes place at the Lake St. Clair Metropark, 31300 Metro Parkway in Harrison Township.

The Secretary of State booth will offer the Michigan Secretary of State’s online services at www.ExpressSOS.com. Hours are noon to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The booth is numbered C15 and is located near the marina.

“ExpressSOS.com helps you take care of many common transactions without having to go into a branch office,” Johnson said. “The online no-wait Secretary of State allows you to renew your watercraft or license plate tabs, or register to vote, among others. Stop by our booth to shorten your to-do list, right on location, quickly and easily.”

Since ExpressSOS.com was launched in late 2011, more than five million transactions have been successfully handled online, saving customers a trip to their local branch office. It also features Print ‘N Go, which allows users to buy their tabs online, print off a receipt and carry the receipt until their tabs arrive in the mail.

“We are pleased to have the Secretary of State exhibit at our Boating and Outdoor Festival,” said Nicki Polan, MBIA executive director. “Secretary Johnson has been very responsive to our Michigan boating industry and continues to work with MBIA to bring quality service and convenience to Michigan’s boaters as they register their watercraft here in Michigan and to help Michigan’s marine businesses as they provide services to their boating customers.”

There are 935,605 watercraft currently registered in Michigan.

The Festival features boat and accessories sales, live music, activities for kids and boat demonstrations.
