The Secretary of State office in Allegan will be closed Nov. 12-16 as a renovation and expansion project is completed but customers can hop online to ExpressSOS.com instead, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said.

The temporary office at 277 North St. will permanently close at the end of the business day on Friday, Nov. 9. Equipment and supplies will be moved back to the remodeled office at 430 Western Ave., final renovation tasks will be completed and normal service will resume there at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 19. Staff will be assigned to work at other branch offices in the area during the closure.

Customers and staff will benefit from 70 percent more lobby space, the addition of customer service stations and public restrooms in the remodeled office. Other renovations include an expanded customer entrance, new data lines to speed transactions, electrical updates, new carpeting and new wallcovering. The remodeled office will also offer 24/7 access to a Self-Service Station, which provides a convenient option for customers renewing their license plate tabs.

“We appreciate area residents’ patience during the remodel project at our Allegan office,” Johnson said. “This updated branch will offer an improved experience to those customers who need to visit.”

ExpressSOS.com allows customers to renew their tabs and driver’s licenses, get a duplicate registration or title, change their address and register to be an organ donor. And with its Print ’N Go feature, customers can renew their driver’s licenses and tabs for their vehicles, motorcycles or boats, print their receipt and drive legally until they get their card or sticker in the mail. On their eighth year, customers do need to visit an office to get a new driver’s license so they can pass a vision test and get an updated photo.
