The Secretary of State office in Petoskey will close for a week at the end of the month due to a remodeling project, but customers can hop online to ExpressSOS.com instead, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said today.
The office at 1185 N. U.S. Highway 31 will not open on Monday, July 30 and
will resume normal service at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 6.
Customers and staff will benefit
from renovations including installation of an accessible work station to allow
for additional staff and improved service, new data lines to speed transactions
and new carpet. Electrical updates will also be done as part of the project.
“The features
that this remodeling project will bring are part of our commitment to
continuously improving and providing convenient customer service while being
efficient with taxpayer dollars,” Johnson said. “Area residents now can do many
transactions with us by hopping online at ExpressSOS.com
but when they do need to visit, they can enjoy the benefits of an updated
office in Petoskey.”
The ExpressSOS website
allows customers to renew their tabs and driver’s licenses, get a duplicate
registration or title, change their address and register to be an organ donor.
And with its Print ’N Go feature, customers can renew their driver’s licenses
and tabs for their vehicles, motorcycles or boats, print their receipt and
drive legally until they get their card or sticker in the mail. On their eighth
year, customers do need to visit an office to get a new driver’s license so
they can pass a vision test and get an updated photo.
