SOS Johnson promotes pride in Michigan during visit to elementary school in Ortonville

Secretary Johnson

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson visited Harvey-Swanson Elementary School in Ortonville today as part of the school’s annual festival and challenged students' knowledge of Michigan in a fun, trivia game.

Johnson was a special guest for youngsters in second through fifth grades at the school. She talked with the kids about what the Secretary of State’s Office does (educating and licensing drivers, helping administer elections, etc.) and then played a trivia game with them.

“What is the name of the large sand dune named after an Indian legend?” she asked, looking for someone to answer Sleeping Bear Dunes. “What Michigan inventor invented the light bulb?" she inquired, waiting for the correct answer of Thomas Edison.

Secretary Johnson was one of several presenters to participate in the school's festival. The students’ day began with an assembly and also featured a classic car show at the school.
