The S.E. Macomb County PLUS Secretary of State office in St. Clair Shores will be closed for several days later this month as it moves to a new location but customers can hop online to ExpressSOS.com instead, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson announced today.

The Secretary of State office at 24040 Harper Ave. will close as of Monday, May 14, and will reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 21, a mile to the southwest at 18809 E. 9 Mile Road in Eastpointe.

Customers and staff will benefit from the customer-friendly upgrades that include a new facility with more parking, a better layout with additional seating, and easier access to the office as it is right off Interstate 94 at 9 Mile Road. Customers will be able park close to the vestibule where the 24/7 tab renewal station is.

Office hours remain unchanged: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

“The features that this relocation project will bring are part of our commitment to continuously improving and providing convenient customer service while being efficient with taxpayer dollars,” Johnson said. “Area residents now can do many transactions with us by hopping online at ExpressSOS.com but when they do visit, they can enjoy the benefits of a new office in Eastpointe.”

The ExpressSOS website allows customers to renew their tabs and driver’s licenses, get a duplicate registration or title, change their address and register to be an organ donor. And with its Print ’N Go feature, customers can renew their driver’s licenses and tabs for their vehicles, motorcycles or boats, print their receipt and drive legally until they get their card or sticker in the mail. On their eighth year, customers do need to visit an office to get a new driver’s license so they can pass a vision test and get an updated photo.
