The Secretary of State office in Monroe will close the first week of
April due to a remodeling project, but customers can hop online to ExpressSOS.com instead, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson
said.
The office, located at 1107 S. Telegraph Road, will not open on Monday,
April 2 and will resume normal service at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 9.
Customers and staff will benefit
from renovations that include new data lines to speed transactions, electrical
updates and a new counter configuration. The project also includes the
installation of the MI-TIME Line system,
which allows customers to make appointments or get in line online or by kiosk
so they can avoid waiting in the office.
“The features
that this remodeling project will bring are part of our commitment to
continuously improving and providing convenient customer service while being
efficient with taxpayer dollars,” Johnson said. “Area residents now can do many
transactions with us by hopping online at ExpressSOS.com but
when they do need to visit, they can enjoy the benefits of an updated office in
Monroe.”
The ExpressSOS website
allows customers to renew their tabs and driver’s licenses, get a duplicate
registration or title, change their address and register to be an organ donor.
And with its Print ’N Go feature, customers can renew their driver’s licenses
and tabs for their vehicles, motorcycles or boats, print their receipt and
drive legally until they get their card or sticker in the mail. On their eighth
year, customers do need to visit an office to get a new driver’s license so
they can pass a vision test and get an updated photo.
