19 sessions of the in person regional class for county clerks, staff and persons serving on county canvassing boards will begin June 27, 2016. Training will cover preparations for the 2016 elections, the procedures associated with the canvass / certification of elections and conducting vote recounts.

Each class will held from 9 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. Counties please alert the members of your canvassing boards of these training dates, emphasizing to your canvassers that it is important that they attend this training. We are asking all county clerks and county staff that assist in the canvassing process to register for the training in the eLearning Center. Please register for the session that is most convenient to your location and schedule. Board members do not need to pre-register.

Train the Trainer (Makeup Session) –

In December, the Bureau of Elections conducted the biennial Train the Trainer courses. If you were unable to attend this required course for County Clerks and jurisdictions over 10,000 in population who train their own election inspectors, the Bureau of Elections is offering a one time makeup session on June 13th in Lansing from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Note that for anyone attending the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks (MAMC) Summer Conference in Lansing in June, this new class is being held in the same location (the Lansing Center) a day prior to the MAMC conference. This class is a required component of continuing education for counties and larger jurisdictions that conduct their own precinct inspector training.

Accreditation for New Election Officials –

A two day in-person class, designed specifically for new election officials to obtain their initial accreditation, is being offered this June in three regional locations across the state. Class will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

June 7 & 8 - Bay County
June 20 & 21 - Kent County
June 29 & 30 - Marquette County

The class is part of the New Election Officials’ Accreditation Certification Program. Accreditation is achieved by completing the in-person class, online components, and passing the online exam. To get started, please register for the Certification Program in the eLearning Center. Watch the video on the eLearning Center's homepage for directions.

Election Management Portal (EMP) Software Update

The Permanent AV Search module in the EMP application has been updated.  The Send Mass AV Applications process has been split into two processes, Generate Mass AV Applications and Save/Track Mass AV Applications.  The Generate Mass AV Applications button will produce applications for permanent list voters and allow you to re-generate them as much as needed while tracking them separately. To record the date sent for the permanent AV list, use the Save/Track Mass AV Applications feature.  Separating this function allows users to re-generate mass applications due to printer errors or other mistakes that could occur.  Please reference pages 14 and 15 of the Elections Management Portal for non-QVF Users Manual for step-by-step directions.
