Local agencies enact seasonal weight and speed restrictions effective Feb. 16

Seasonal weight and speed restrictions will be enforced by the following local road agencies beginning Monday, Feb. 16, at 6 a.m.

  • Allegan County Road Commission
  • Barry County Road Commission
  • Berrien County Road Department
  • Cass County Road Commission
  • Calhoun County Road Department (Enforcement begins Tuesday, Feb. 17)
  • Ionia County Road Department
  • Road Commission of Kalamazoo County
  • Kent County Road Commission
  • Mason County Road Commission
  • Road Commission for Montcalm County
  • Muskegon County Road Commission
  • Newaygo County Road Commission
  • Oceana County Road Commission
  • Ottawa County Road Commission
  • St. Joseph County Road Commission
  • Van Buren County Road Commission
  • City of Walker
  • City of Kentwood

Seasonal weight and speed restrictions help preserve the integrity of roadways during freeze-thaw cycles. As temperatures rise, thawing conditions release frost from the ground, leaving roadbeds saturated and more vulnerable to damage from heavier vehicle loads.

During seasonal restrictions, normal legal axle loads must be reduced by 35 percent, and truck speeds are limited to 35 mph on posted roads.

For statewide seasonal restriction information, visit the County Road Association of Michigan's seasonal weight restriction dashboard.

For truck-related inquiries, contact the Michigan Center for Truck Safety at 800-MTA-4MTA (800-682-4682)
