Wishing You a Safe and Prepared New Year!

As we welcome the New Year, Ottawa County Emergency Management would like to thank you for your continued engagement and commitment to community safety.

The beginning of a new year is a natural time to reflect on the past and look ahead. It is also a valuable opportunity to review preparedness steps that can help reduce risk and improve safety during emergencies. In Ottawa County, hazards can range from severe winter weather and power outages to flooding, heat, and other unexpected incidents. Preparation plays a key role in reducing impacts and supporting faster recovery.

As you move into the year ahead, we encourage you to take a few simple actions:
• Review your personal, family, or workplace emergency plans.
• Update emergency contact information and ensure everyone knows how to communicate if normal methods are unavailable.
• Check emergency supply kits and replace expired or missing items.
• Consider the specific needs of children, older adults, pets, and neighbors who may need extra assistance.
• Stay informed about seasonal hazards and preparedness guidance throughout the year.

Ottawa County Emergency Management works year round with local first responders, county departments, state agencies, and community partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. Public awareness and individual preparedness are essential parts of that effort. When residents take time to prepare, it strengthens the entire community.

We appreciate your continued interest in emergency preparedness and resilience. Together, we can reduce risk, improve readiness, and support one another when it matters most.

We wish you a safe, healthy, and prepared New Year.

Sincerely,

Lou Hunt, Leah DeLano, Derek Schroeder, and Chris Saddler
