We are still exploring the lesser-known yet essential responsibilities of the Clerk/Register of Deeds. So far, we’ve highlighted our role as Secretary to the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners, the Ottawa County Plat Board, and the Ottawa County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority—positions dedicated to supporting transparency and keeping accurate public records.
This month, we’re spotlighting a similar responsibility: serving as Secretary to the Ottawa County Economic Development Corporation.
The Economic Development Corporation works to boost Ottawa County’s economy by reducing unemployment and supporting the growth, retention, and modernization of local businesses. It can develop projects, acquire property and equipment, issue bonds, partner with public and private entities, assist in redevelopment and planning efforts, and provide financial or logistical support to advance economic development and community revitalization.
As Secretary, our office:
-
Posts all Public Hearing Notices in compliance with Michigan’s Open Meetings Act;
-
Attends meetings and prepares official minutes; and
-
Ensures public access to meeting records.
Though much of this work happens behind the scenes, it’s key to effective county governance and public transparency.
Stay tuned for the next installment in our series, highlighting more of our lesser-known and essential responsibilities.
Recount of City of Holland, Ward 3 - Council Member
For the November 4, 2025 City General Election
On November 17, 2025, the Ottawa County Board of Canvassers conducted a hand recount of the City of Holland’s Ward 3 Council Member race. With support from Ottawa County Elections staff and dedicated volunteer recount workers, absentee ballots were recounted throughout the morning.
The recount confirmed the original Election Night results, affirming the election of Tim Marroquin.
We extend our sincere thanks to all county and city staff members and the dedicated recount workers whose diligence and integrity ensured a smooth and accurate process.
Honoring Veterans at Holland High School
On Veteran’s Day, the Honor Rewards Program was grateful to participate in Holland High School’s 88th Annual Veterans Day Assembly.
For 88 years, Holland High has honored past and present service members from its community. This year’s ceremony was especially meaningful with the unveiling of the new Wall of Honor, recognizing 88 alumni who gave their lives in service to our country.
Honor Rewards—created by Fidlar Technologies—is a nationally recognized program that supports veterans by offering an ID card for discounts and benefits at participating local businesses.
Veterans and businesses interested in joining the program can learn more and sign up on our website.
