Stay Prepared: Emergency
Management in Ottawa County

Ottawa County Emergency Management is committed to keeping our community safe, informed, and prepared. Whether it’s severe weather, chemical emergencies, or large-scale incidents, our team works year-round with local first responders, schools, businesses, and residents to build a stronger, more resilient county.

What We Do

  • Planning & Preparedness
We develop response plans for hazards that could impact our county, including severe weather, flooding, and hazardous materials. Recently, we updated emergency plans for industrial facilities to ensure both responders and the public have clear guidance in case of a chemical incident.

  • Training & Exercises
Our office regularly hosts training sessions for first responders, schools, and businesses. These exercises help ensure that if a real emergency occurs, everyone knows their role and can respond quickly and effectively.

  • Public Engagement
We provide resources and outreach to residents—whether that’s speaking at community events, running preparedness campaigns, or working with schools on safety drills.

Why Preparedness Matters

Emergencies can happen anytime—often without warning. Taking steps today makes a big difference tomorrow. Families, schools, and workplaces that plan ahead are proven to recover faster and stay safer during disasters.

Simple actions you can take now include:

  • Making an emergency kit with food, water, and supplies for at least 72 hours.

  • Creating a family communication plan in case you’re separated.

  • Staying informed through trusted sources of local emergency updates.
