For Immediate Release
Ottawa County Clerk and Register of Deeds Justin Roebuck today announced the launch of a new online service that allows residents to electronically record many types of documents without ever having to visit the office.
For years, electronic recording has been available to banks, title companies, and attorneys. Now, for the first time, the Register of Deeds Office is extending this convenient option to individual consumers.
“We’re thrilled to offer Consumer E-Recording to everyday customers,” said Roebuck. “It’s fast, secure, and cost-effective, saving both time for residents and money for our taxpayers.”
Through Consumer E-Recording, individuals can securely submit documents such as affidavits, association liens and discharges, discharges and satisfactions of mortgage, certificates of trust, claims of lien, notices of commencement, releases, and lis pendens.
Documents that transfer property, such as deeds and mortgage foreclosures, must still be recorded in person or by mail.
How It Works
- Visit www.miottawa.org/rod and click on “Consumer E-Recording.”
- Select Ottawa County, MI and review the step-by-step instructions.
- Verify your identity using a photo ID and a security code sent to your contact information.
- Upload your original document (not a photocopy or previously recorded version).
- Submit payment: a $30 statutory recording fee per document, plus a $20 convenience fee for the online service.
Most documents are reviewed and, if accepted, returned via email within 24–48 hours.
“This new service means no printing, no driving, and no waiting in line,” Roebuck added. “It’s just one more way we’re working to make county services more accessible and efficient for the public.”
