Celebrating a Major Milestone!

The entirety of the Clerk/Register of Deeds Office team wants to acknowledge that last month had a significant milestone for our team – it was Rachel Sanchez’s 25^th Anniversary of working for Ottawa County – all of those years spent with the Register of Deeds and Clerk’s Office!

Rachel has served our team well, in many different roles, since joining the Register of Deeds office in the year 2000. She started working the front counter serving customers, dealing with lots of paper and micro-film, to her current role of strategic oversight, budget planning and operational management of our Vital Records, Land Records, and Board of Commissioners’ responsibilities - there’s not much that Rachel hasn’t seen or dealt with!

That level of experience makes her an expert who is relied upon, not just by our whole team, but by *many* Registers of Deeds throughout Michigan.  Not too many weeks go by without Rachel getting an advice question from one of Michigan’s 82 other counties – and we are fortunate to have that knowledge here in our office.

Please join us in congratulating Rachel for 25 Years of Service!

Election

Ottawa County will hold City Primary and Special Elections on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.  Polls will open at 7:00 am and close at 8:00 pm.

The following jurisdictions will have either a race or proposal on the ballot, including residents in the following districts:

• • City of Ferrysburg
  • City of Holland
  • City of Zeeland
  • Chester Township
  • Holland Charter Township
  • Park Township

How to Search Public Records on the New Ottawa County Website

If you live in Ottawa County or need to access official documents such as property records, deeds, or court filings, the County Clerk/Register of Deeds sections of the Ottawa County website is your go-to resource. Whether you're researching property history, checking for liens, or preparing for a real estate transaction, our online searches offer a convenient way to access many public records from the comfort of your home.

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to help you navigate the process:

Step 1: Visit the Official County Website

Step 2: Choose the Type of Record

• Real estate/property documents (deeds, mortgages, liens)

• Vital records (birth, death, and marriage certificates – these are not fully public but can be requested)

• Business filings (DBAs/assumed names)

Step 3: Use the Search Tool

Once you’ve accessed the search portal, you can look up records using several methods:

• Name Search: Enter the name of the individual or business.

• Address or Parcel Number: If you know the property address or parcel ID.

• Document Type: Filter by deed, mortgage, lien, etc.

• Date Range: Narrow results to a specific time period.

Step 4: View and Download Documents

Basic document details are available for free. For full copies (especially for legal or official use), a fees apply. 

Fees:

• Searching indexes: Free

• Downloading documents: $1.00 a page
