Brashears Named Interim Executive Director for Community Mental Health
The Executive Board of Community Mental Health, Ottawa County is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Brashears has graciously agreed to return to CMHOC and serve in the role of Interim Executive Director.
Dr. Brashears has a proven track record of success and served as the Executive Director of Community Mental Health Ottawa County from 2008-2013. As Executive Director at CMHOC Dr. Brashears:
1. Developed the first CMH access center to utilize standardized assessment tools to assist in the assessment and prior authorization process.
2. Led a statewide funding equity initiative to address the disparity in CMH General Funding. This resulted in Ottawa County CMH being exempt from State General Fund reductions.
3. Restructured the Ottawa County CMH residential system, ensuring that residents with the highest needs were not excluded due to cost.
4. Developed the CMH community care clinic where individuals who didn’t qualify for CMH services were provided crisis stabilization services and connected to community providers.
5. Developed an award-winning outcome measurement system.
6. Was the first CMH to provide internships for Grand Valley State University.
During the last 10 years, Dr. Brashears has worked directly caring for persons with mental illness and intellectual and developmental disabilities as a provider for Hope Network, David’s House Ministries and Be Better Holland.
