Recently, Community Mental Health of Ottawa County, Coopersville-Polkton Fire Rescue and MDHHS partnered to provide Autism and Carter Kit training to 33 local first responders from 17 agencies in law enforcement, fire rescue and resource organizations.
Carter Kits contain clinically proven items known to comfort children who are on the autism spectrum, as well as children who occasionally find themselves overwhelmed or impacted by traumatic events. Items include a weighted blanket, headphones, sunglasses, fidget toys, and instructions for non-verbal communication. This event was sponsored by System of Care grant funding and the Crisis Intervention Team.
