On December 12, the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners appointed Ms. Kendra Wenzel to the Ottawa County Board. Commissioner Wenzel will serve District 6, representing Georgetown Charter Township Precincts 9, 10, 11, 12 13, 14, 15, 16 & 17.
Ms. Wenzel currently serves as precinct delegate and is active in the Ottawa County Republican Party. Her service work includes mentoring young mothers and coordinating volunteers who pack weekend meals for students in need. Professionally, Wenzel worked as a sales consultant for more than two decades. More details.
There were 11 eligible applications received to fill the position of District 6 Commissioner. Five candidates were interviewed for the position.
"Thank you to all of the residents who submitted applications for the District 6 Commissioner position," said Joe Moss, Chair of the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners. "Their willingness to serve should be commended, especially their humility and transparency demonstrated in the public interview process."
This appointment fills the vacancy left by Kyle Terpstra, who resigned from the board in November citing personal reasons. Wenzel will serve the remainder of the term, ending December 31, 2024.

In a strong step forward for Ottawa County's Broadband Strategy, the County Board of Commissioners voted to finalize Public-Private Partnerships with 123Net and Tilson Infrastructure during their regular meeting on Tuesday, December 12. And in a big win for taxpayers, the partnership agreement also includes revenue sharing, which strengthens County finances by allowing the County to share in the expected returns on the County’s $7.5 million investment. This collaborative undertaking was originally activated in March of this year when the Board signed a letter of intent with 123NET to pursue grant funds for needed broadband expansion throughout the county. Tuesday's vote on actual service delivery contracts allows 123NET to accept an award of nearly $14M in Realizing Opportunities with Broadband Infrastructure Networks (ROBIN) grant funding, which was prioritized for Ottawa County by the State of Michigan when the second round of funding was announced earlier this fall. Preliminary unemployment rates for October 2023 were recently released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management, and Budget. Ottawa County’s October unemployment rate was 3.1%. Of Michigan counties, Ottawa County had the second lowest unemployment rate for October. Rates across the state ranged from 3.1% in Grand Traverse County to 6.3% in Osceola County.
Forty-eight Michigan counties saw their unemployment rates decrease in October. Across the year, 51 counties have seen a fall in their unemployment rate.
