Free Children's Hearing and Vision Screenings Available at Ottawa County Department of Public Health
Schedule now before the back-to-school rush!
Free hearing and vision screenings are available at the Ottawa County Department of Public Health.
Hearing and vision screening is required for any child entering kindergarten in the 2023-2024 school year, but all children ages 3 to 6 are eligible for screening. An average of 10% of children screened for vision, and 5% of children screened for hearing, are referred to a doctor for follow up care. If your child is preparing for school, or if you have a concern, we encourage you to make an appointment for a free screening today.
Screenings are by appointment only. Please call 616-396-5266 to schedule your child’s free, comprehensive screening. You will receive a text reminder to confirm your appointment. Plan to arrive a few minutes early and if your child is showing any signs of illness prior to the appointment, please reschedule for another time.
“A child's ability to see and hear are vital to learning. Screenings are an important tool to obtain information about hearing and vision loss, and can contribute to a child's overall health and well-being,” said Leslie Ver Duin, Hearing and Vision Services Program Supervisor.
