Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 booster doses authorized for eligible groups

OCDPH now offers boosters for all 3 FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccines

(HOLLAND, MI.) – The Ottawa County Department of Public Health (OCDPH) is now offering Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine booster doses to eligible residents. The Centers of Disease and Control (CDC) has advised that different types of vaccines can be mixed safely, and individuals can choose which vaccine they would like to receive for their booster shot. OCDPH recommends consulting your physician to determine which vaccine is right for you.

For individuals who received the 2-dose Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, eligible groups can receive a booster shot six months or more after their initial series. According to the CDC, those who meet at least one of the following criteria are eligible for the booster dose:

  • 65 years and older
  • Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings
  • Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions
  • Age 18+ who work or live in high-risk settings
    • High risk settings include: first responders, education staff, food and agricultural workers, manufacturing workers, corrections workers, U.S. Postal Service workers, public transit workers and grocery store workers.

For individuals who received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson, recipients age 18+ can receive their booster shot two months or more after their initial dose.

Booster shots are readily available in Ottawa County, and can be obtained at OCDPH, many local pharmacies, and many health care facilities. Booster doses are also offered at every vaccine clinic to those who are eligible. To find a vaccine clinic visit VaccinateWestmi.com/clinics.
