2020 Census Data Release

On August 12, 2021 the US Census Bureau released 2020 Census Redistricting Data results which include the following data for counties, townships, cities, voting districts, school districts, tracts, and census blocks:
- Housing unit counts
- Occupancy status for housing units
- Population totals
- Population totals by race and by Hispanic/Latino origin
- Voting-age population totals by race and Hispanic/Latino origin
- Population totals in group quarters
State and local leaders utilize redistricting data for the purpose of redrawing electoral district boundaries based on where their populations have increased or decreased.
This post contains a summary of the most vital population data for counties and local units in the recent release:
County Population Data:
- According to the new population data, Ottawa County has gained 32,399 residents since 2010 — a 12.3% increase — for a total population of 296,200 residents.
- Ottawa County was officially the fastest growing county in the State of Michigan from 2010 to 2020.
- Ottawa County increased from the eighth most populous county in 2010 to the seventh most populous county in 2020.
Local Unit Population Data:
- Since 2010, all local units have increased in population.
- The greatest growth was seen in Jamestown (36.9%), Allendale (28.4%), Port Sheldon (22.8%), Blendon (22.7%), and Zeeland (20.4%) townships.

The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners meets the second and fourth Tuesdays each month at 1:30PM. The public is welcome and encouraged to participate. Meetings are held in the Board Room located at 12220 Fillmore Street, West Olive, Michigan.
