National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) was first observed on June 27, 1995. NHTD is a day to encourage people to get tested for HIV, know their status, and get linked to care and treatment. The 2020 theme is “Knowing”. This theme focuses on knowing one's HIV status and recognizes new ways to take an HIV test. It also drives us to continue the momentum toward Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America.
"Many people with HIV are unaware they have it," said Deborah Price, sexual health team supervisor. “The only way to know your HIV status is to get tested. Knowing your status gives you powerful information to keep you and your partner healthy.”
“Knowing” can mean knowing about treatment options and understanding prevention options, including PrEP, which is available through the Ready Set PrEP Program.
