Michigan's Presidential Primary

What?

Michigan holds an open primary meaning all eligible voters can vote in either the Democratic or Republican party primary because Michigan does not have party registration. Voters in Park Township and Robinson Township also have local township proposals on their ballots.

Candidates on the Republican ballot include:

  • Mark Sanford
  • Donald J. Trump

Voting uncommitted means you support a political party, but are not committed to any candidate listed on the ballot.

Why?

Every four years, the Democratic and Republican parties hold primaries to nominate one candidate for the office of the President of the United States. Primary elections are held on different days in different states.

When?

Michigan's Presidential Primary will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Polls will be open from 7am to 8pm.

Where?

Voters can find their polling place and view a sample ballot at www.michigan.gov/vote or through our "Find my Polling Place" application. Voters also have the option to vote by mail. Absentee Ballot Applications are available at your local clerk's office. Their contact information can also be found at www.michigan.gov/vote.
