Santa will be donning a uniform of a different style for some local kids. The Ottawa County will host "Shop with a Hero" on December 4 in Grand Haven and on December 11 in Jamestown and Jenison. On December 21, residents are invited to visit Zeeland to "Cram the Cruiser" for families in need.
Santa will look a little bit different this year for some Ottawa County kids. Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputies, township fire fighters and other local heroes will help these kids fulfill Christmas wishes at the 11th Annual Shop with a Hero benefit on December 4 in Grand Haven and on December 11 in Jamestown and Jenison. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office partners with the local schools and other organizations to pair less fortunate local kids with deputies and firefighters for holiday shopping. The deputies and firefighters will help pick out the perfect gifts for the moms, dads, and siblings on each child's gift-giving list. Of course, the kids will be encouraged to select a little something special for themselves, too. All of this is on the house, thanks to the generosity of the Grand Haven, Jenison and Jamestown Meijer stores and the Grand Haven Wal-Mart store.
While donations for "Shop with a Sheriff" are secured for this year, those wishing to help local kids can bring new, unwrapped toys and clothing items or non-perishable food items to the Zeeland Family Fare on December 21 from noon to 4PM. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office and Zeeland Police Department will be in the parking lot "Cramming the Cruiser" full of these items for His Harvest food pantry.
The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office headquarters in West Olive is also a drop-off location for Toys for Tots. The drop-off box is accessible to the public Monday through Friday from 8AM - 5PM through December 13.
