That date on your food may not be an expiration date!

Date marking confusion leads to millions of pounds of food waste annually. The food from the grocery store may say “best if used by” and this indicates a date when the food is most likely to be the best quality. Food does not need to be discarded for safety reasons on this date. If the food says “sell-by”, this is to inform stores of how long they should display the product.
