The Stop Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) Council is planting pinwheel gardens to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month. Beginning April 9, Ottawa County residents will start seeing over 60 pinwheel gardens pop-up throughout different communities. Each pinwheel reminds us that individually we have the power to prevent child maltreatment, and collectively our actions will create considerable change.

Since 1985, April is set aside to focus on the importance of families and how we can work together to develop healthy childhoods. The pinwheel is recognized as the national symbol for child abuse prevention and represents the happy, carefree childhoods all children deserve.

The community is welcome to join SCAN for the Pinwheels for Prevention Kick Off and Garden Planting on April 9 from 12 to 1 p.m. at Grand Haven Public Safety, 525 Washington Ave, Grand Haven.

For more family and fundraiser events throughout April, follow Arbor Circle on Facebook or find a calendar on arborcircle.org/services/advocacy-and-prevention/. To learn how to become more involved with SCAN, email prevention@arborcircle.org.
