Road Commission Construction Update: Sept. 7, 2018

Several county road projects affected by work stoppage

As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, some road work in Ottawa County is on hold due to a labor dispute between the Michigan Infrastructure Transportation Association and the Operating Engineer’s Local 324.

The Ottawa County Road Commission is not a party to these negotiations.

The major projects impacted include:

• James Street -- Resurfacing between U.S. 31 and Chicago Drive in Holland Township.
• Osborn/Bass/Warner -- Resurfacing between 68th Avenue and 104th Avenue in Allendale and Robinson townships.

Cottonwood Drive reconstruction work in Georgetown Township, between Baldwin and Bauer, will also see a partial shutdown due to the labor dispute. Please note that workers who are not a part of the labor dispute continue to work on the Cottonwood project.

Please note that it will remain the contractor’s responsibility to keep work zones safe for the traveling public.

Resurfacing does not close the road, it will remain open to through traffic, with lane closures.

Tyler Street Reconstruction Update

Contractors are currently on schedule for the project, which stretches from 72nd Avenue to 96th Avenue in Blendon Township.

This past week, workers were working on earth work between 84th Avenue and 88th Avenue. Crews plan on placing the large culvert at Tyler Street and 96th Avenue in the next several weeks.

Please note that the road remains closed to thru traffic, and is open to local traffic only.

All work is anticipated to be complete by Oct. 19.
