The Seasonal Influenza (Flu) Report is produced during each annual flu season to inform residents, media outlets and healthcare providers about the current rates of the flu in Ottawa County compared to previous seasons. The report contains flu-related data from physician's offices, schools, laboratories and emergency departments. It is one tool among many used by public health to reduce the risk of the flu in individuals, families and our community.
"This report contains
data through the week ending Saturday, April 21, 2018. We are currently in the
last week of what is typically termed “influenza season”, though flu-like
illness is always present in the community," said Epidemiologist Marcia Mansaray.
Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. Serious outcomes of flu infection can result in hospitalization or death. Older people, young children and people with certain health conditions are at high risk of serious flu complications. LEARN MORE
The best way to protect against the flu is by getting vaccinated.
The data are provisional - based on current reports in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System, Michigan Syndromic Surveillance System, Ottawa County Department of Public Health online aggregate illness reporting site and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's FluView.
