Santa donning a different suit for some kids in Grand Haven. The Ottawa County is hosting "Shop with a Sheriff" on December 5.
Santa looks a little bit different this year for some Grand Haven area kids. Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputies and Grand Haven Fire Fighters will help these kids fulfill Christmas wishes at the 9th Annual Shop with a Sheriff benefit on December 5. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office partners with Wal-Mart, Meijer, Grand Haven Public Schools and Gand Haven Township Fire & Rescue to pair less fortunate local kids with deputies and firefighters for holiday shopping. The deputies and firefighters will help pick out the perfect gifts for those moms, dads and siblings on each child's gift-giving list. Of course, they select a little something special for each child shopper, too. All of this is on the house, thanks to the generosity of the Grand Haven Meijer and Wal-Mart stores.
While donations for "Shop with a Sheriff" are secured for this year, those wishing to help local kids can bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office headquarters in West Olive for Toys for Tots by December 15. The drop-off box is accessible to the public Monday through Friday from 8AM - 5PM.
