Ottawa County program offers military discounts at 100 local businesses

With Veteran’s Day approaching Nov. 11, the Ottawa County Clerk’s Office is spreading the word about a county-run program for veterans involving discounts at more than 100 local businesses.

Ottawa County veterans who sign up for the Honor Rewards program are given a personalized photo ID card they can use to receive discounts at businesses throughout the county. These businesses range from restaurants and realtors to law offices, chiropractors, car dealerships and more.

“The Honor Rewards ID program is just one small way that we can give back to the thousands of Ottawa County Veterans who’ve given so much to us,” said Ottawa County Clerk Justin Roebuck.  “We are so thankful to the many businesses across our community who have partnered with us in this effort.”

Veterans who wish to join are asked to fill out a short application form in person at one of the Ottawa County Clerk’s Office locations or online at miottawa.org/honorrewards and either provide a passport-quality headshot photo or have a photo taken at the Fillmore Street clerk’s office location. They also must submit a copy of their DD214 military discharge paperwork that will be filed as proof of their military service.

The clerk’s office then mails each veteran a photo ID card and a list of participating businesses. Veterans must present the ID card and mention Honor Rewards to receive the discounts.

The clerk’s office continues to seek additional business partners interested in being part of the program and honoring our Ottawa County veterans. Participating business owners fill out a short application form and are given an Honor Rewards sticker to have on display. There is no fee to participate. The businesses are included on a list sent to all participating veterans and may be mentioned in various forms of publicity the clerk’s office uses for the program.
