Sept 15:  Welcoming Michigan: Statewide Convening.  Building Immigrant-Friendly Communities.  Share promising practices for fostering more inclusive communities.  Keynote speaker Tracy Keza, whose Hijabs & Hoodies photographs explore the intersection between anti-blackness and Islamophobia plus other speakers and workshops. Sept 18:  "Hope for Peace and Justice" highlighting 2017 International Day of Peace.  Sponsored by Lakeshore Women for Peace, with other partners, including ACEH. Herrick District Library, 300 South River, Holland, 7 pm.

Sept 21-24: 17th annual Tulipanes Latino Art & Film Festival.  This year's event is presented under the auspices of Latin Americans United for Progress. More info.

Oct 5:, 8:30 am:  11th annual Lakeshore Friends of Fair Housing Breakfast: Opening Doors to Housing Choice.  Keynote speaker Amy Nelson, executive director of Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana and board member of National Fair Housing Alliance.  Free but must register (registration open) at www.fhcwm.org or call (616) 451-2980.  At Baker Lofts, 24th St. at Lincoln Ave, Holland, 8:30 am.


Community Opportunity
 

Reciprocal Language Partnership (RLP) will offer several levels of instruction this fall. The classes pair English speakers who want to learn Spanish with native Spanish speakers who want to learn English. The RLP works to build unity and cross-cultural understanding. There is a cost for the classes, which are held at Eagle's Wings Church/Iglesia Alas de Aguila, 635 Riley St, Holland. Call Rachel Patmos at (616) 738-3850 with questions. Participants MUST attend one of the following informational, hour-long meetings at the church before enrolling in a class:  Tues, Sept 5, 6:15 for English speakers; 7:15 for Spanish speakers. OR Tues, Sept 12, 6:15, English; 7:15, Spanish.
