Apply to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Citizen Police Academy

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is taking applications for the
2017 Citizen Police Academy.

The Citizen Police Academy is a 12-session program offered annually giving an inside look at law enforcement to 25 citizens. Topics include:

• Overview of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office
• Sheriff's Office Road Patrol
• Ottawa County Correctional Facility & Tour
• Ottawa County Central Dispatch & Tour
• Undercover Investigations & Narcotics
• Marine Patrol & Dive Team duties
• Sheriff's K9 Patrol duties/demo
• Sheriff's E-Unit Duties & Demonstration
• Criminal Scientific Support Unit & Crime Scene Investigation
• Use of force Explanation & Demonstrations
• Firearms, Range & Simulator
• Sheriff's Office Special Operations
• Criminal Justice Legal System
• Accident & Fatal Accident Investigations
• Community Policing

Candidates for the Citizen Police Academy must meet the following criteria:

• Minimum age of 18
• Live or work in Ottawa County
• No Misdemeanor arrests within one year of application
• No prior felony arrests

Enrollment is limited to twenty-five students per session. Selected applicants will be notified in January. Most sessions will be held at the Ottawa County Fillmore Street Complex, Administration Building from 6-9PM. Applicants should be prepared to attend class on each of the following dates: February 21 & 28; March 6, 13, 20 & 27; April 10, 17 & 24; May 2, 9 & 16.
