The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is taking applications for the
2017 Citizen Police Academy.
The Citizen Police Academy is a 12-session program offered annually giving an inside look at law enforcement to 25 citizens. Topics include:
- Overview of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office
- Sheriff's Office Road Patrol
- Ottawa County Correctional Facility & Tour
- Ottawa County Central Dispatch & Tour
- Undercover Investigations & Narcotics
- Marine Patrol & Dive Team duties
- Sheriff's K9 Patrol duties/demo
- Sheriff's E-Unit Duties & Demonstration
- Criminal Scientific Support Unit & Crime Scene Investigation
- Use of force Explanation & Demonstrations
- Firearms, Range & Simulator
- Sheriff's Office Special Operations
- Criminal Justice Legal System
- Accident & Fatal Accident Investigations
- Community Policing
Candidates for the Citizen Police Academy must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum age of 18
- Live or work in Ottawa County
- No Misdemeanor arrests within one year of application
- No prior felony arrests
Enrollment is limited to twenty-five students per session. Selected applicants will be notified in January. Most sessions will be held at the Ottawa County Fillmore Street Complex, Administration Building from 6-9PM. Applicants should be prepared to attend class on each of the following dates: February 21 & 28; March 6, 13, 20 & 27; April 10, 17 & 24; May 2, 9 & 16.
