In May 2026, the Michigan Office of Retirement Services (ORS) will offer a new web resource. The page will help reporting units that need to complete a contract review for a retiring administrator.
The new Contract Reviews section, located under Reporting Resources on Employer Information website, explains what these reviews are and what to expect. It also lists the type of documentation ORS needs you to send. It offers tips to help make the review process as fast and easy as possible.
Over the years we developed several Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) pages to assist reporting units, but they were hard to locate. Now, all FAQ pages are centrally located under the Reporting Resources tab of the Employer Information page: Frequently Asked Questions.
Also, we added a new FAQ page focused on reporting Weekly Workers’ Compensation, joining our existing FAQ pages.
Nine FAQ links currently appear on this new FAQ page. As topics age or as new legislation makes FAQ pages out of date, older pages might move to the Legislative Archive area, making room for new ones if needed.
We hope that by reorganizing our website content, we’ve made your job a little easier. If we did our job well, you will find answers faster and with less effort.
Since July 1, 2023, payments made to teachers with additional students in their classroom, over the agreed-upon classroom load, are considered reportable if the following criteria are met:
- The payment is offered district-wide to all employees working under the 1240 – Teaching classification. Teaching is defined as an assignment to instruct students. The assignment may be in course or non-course instructional situations.
- The payment is specifically documented in the contract before the payment is made.
You can find more types of compensation that require extra information to decide whether they are reportable in the RIM section 4.04: Special situations.
