On Wednesday, Feb. 18, the Michigan Office of Retirement Services (ORS) sent most reporting units (RUs) an email showing a credit that appeared on your employer statement starting Feb. 18 to be applied to future defined contribution (DC) employer contributions.
The email was sent to the Web Administrator at your RU with instructions to share the information with business officials, payment processors, and any other payroll staff who may need it. If you need this information but did not receive the email, please contact your Web Administrator.
If your RU doesn’t have employees who make DC or Personal Healthcare Fund contributions, you did not receive this email and can ignore this information.
For more information and assistance in calculating your pay cycle payments visit the Employer Contributions Forfeiture Credit resource page.
On Friday, Feb. 27, the DC Feedback File will display rate changes for this year’s Small Steps campaign. Please ensure that DC contribution rates for any employees listed are updated based on the effective report end date on the View DC Feedback File screen. Depending on your payroll calendar, the effective report end date may be one or two pay periods following Feb. 27.

The look and feel of the Reporting Website will change on March 7. The way you report and make payments will not change. Here's what the Employer Home page will look after the site is updated.
ORS websites and other content must meet federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards by April 24, 2026, to make it easier for people to access our digital content. Other State of Michigan departments and agencies are also required to make these changes.
The ADA changes will make it easier for screen reading devices to understand content. Fonts will be easier to read and all images will have alternative text. Other changes include easier keyboard navigation, simpler layouts and structure, better color contrast, and fewer tables.
ORS is also working on the member websites, the Reporting Information website, and with our partners at Voya Financial to ensure the State of Michigan 401(k) and 457 Plans websites are compliant and easier for all users to access.
On Thursday, Feb. 12, we sent invitations to complete our survey. Your responses help ORS better understand how we can improve our processes and build a stronger relationship with you.
For those who have completed the survey, thank you for your helpful feedback. If you haven’t yet responded, you can still complete the survey before 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25. Completing the survey should take less than 10 minutes.
If your email address is in our contacts database as both payroll and administrative positions, you will receive only one email invitation. The survey will ask which type of position describes your primary role. You may take the survey only once.

Has your reporting unit hired employees to fill a temporary, intermittent or irregular seasonal or athletic position? If they are under age 19, they are not eligible to be a MPSERS member. This is true whether they are a student or not. Once that employee reaches age 19, they are eligible to be a member and you must begin reporting them if they are in a temporary, intermittent or irregular seasonal or athletic position.
Do not report full or part-time community college student employees working for the community college they are enrolled at.
For more information see Student employees in section 3.02 Special membership circumstances of the Reporting Instruction Manual (RIM).

Reminder: the Roth after-tax savings option is another low-cost way to save in the State of Michigan 457 Plan. You and your employees can learn more by reading the Guide to Roth Contributions or by registering for a virtual Q&A session and asking questions in a small group.
