Fireworks Safety Reminder
Village of Wolverine Lake, Michigan sent this bulletin at 07/03/2015 12:00 PM EDTIn light of the recent tragedy in a local community involving fireworks, please let me remind you of some recommended safety tips.
- Obey all local laws regarding the use of fireworks. The Village of Wolverine Lake ordinance says “No person shall ignite, discharge or use consumer fireworks within the Village, except on the day preceding, the day of, or the day after a national holiday. Any lawful use of fireworks is further prohibited between 1:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on New Year’s Day, and for all other days surrounding national holidays the use is prohibited between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.”
- Know your fireworks; read the cautionary labels and performance descriptions before igniting. A responsible adult SHOULD supervise all firework activities. Never give fireworks to children.
- Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Save your alcohol for after the show.
- Light one firework at a time and then quickly move away.
- Use fireworks OUTDOORS in a clear area; away from buildings and vehicles.
- Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.
- Always have a bucket of water and charged water hose nearby.
- Do not experiment with homemade fireworks.
- Dispose of spent fireworks by wetting them down and place in a metal trash can away from any building or combustible materials until the next day.
We want you to be able to celebrate Tiki Night and the 4th of July in a safe atmosphere. Please be courteous to your neighbors and remember to clean up the remaining debris that fireworks leave behind.
Have a safe and Happy Holiday!
