Village Joins RRRASOC & Expands Recycling Services

As of January 1, 2016, the Village of Milford has joined the Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County (RRRASOC), which will expand offerings for recycling, household hazardous waste, and electronic waste disposal services to our residents. These enhanced services will be available to Village residents at no additional cost to the services already in place.

The RRRASOC website – www.rrrasoc.org – is a great source of information regarding recycling, composting, and more, including a listing of future household hazardous waste collection events. In addition to the Village, the authority serves residents in Milford Township and the cities of Farmington, Farmington Hills, Novi, Southfield, South Lyon, Walled Lake, and Wixom.

One of the Village’s objectives in joining RRRASOC was to enhance the number and quality of services available to our residents. Among the new services now available to residents are the following:

  • A total of 6 household hazardous waste collection events, including one scheduled for Milford on May 21, 2016. Look for a postcard from RRRASOC in the mail in late March with the complete details for each of these events. These events also allow for e-waste recycling and offer free shredding to residents of member communities.
  • In spring 2016, the Village will be starting a pilot program with Simple Recycling to allow residents to recycling unwanted clothing by placing it in specially marked bags and setting it out with trash and recycling. Look for additional information and specially marked bags to arrive in the mail in the coming months.

Of note, the Simple Recycling program is NOT a donation – both RRRASOC and the Village encourage you to donate clothing to a local organization in need of such goods as a first option (find a list of groups at www.rrrasoc.org/reuse). This program is intended to help keep other unwanted clothing out of landfills and allow it to be recycled for other uses.

RRRASOC staff is also working with the Village and our current collection company, Rizzo, to expand recycling options to our residents. Watch for updates in future newsletters and online at www.villageofmilford.org/recycle. You can also “like” the RRRASOC Facebook page at www.facebook.com/rrrasoc to stay up to date on other programs and services.
