Animal Control
1000 block of W Wattles, 4/6/13, 10:09 am: A jogger was bit on the leg and suffered a deep puncture wound when a dog ran through an “invisible” fence. The Troy Police Detective Bureau is conducting an investigation.
Assaults
Marriott Hotel, 200 W Big Beaver, 4/5/13, 11:46 pm: Troy Officers were dispatched to a report of a fight in a hotel room involving three women. When officers arrived the fight was over and security had separated the women. Two of the women had sustained very minor injuries. The involved parties agreed to separate for the night and the incident has been turned over to the Troy City Attorney for review and possible charges. Alcohol was a contributing factor.

4/10/13, 5:58 pm: A Troy Officer and his K-9 partner, Bolo, conducted a track for a neighboring jurisdiction at the scene of an armed robbery.
Auto/Vehicle Thefts
2000 block of Charter, 4/4/13 – 4/5/13, 11pm - 4am: The complainant’s Honda Civic was stolen from the parking lot of his apartment complex.
Breaking and Entries
ITT Technical Institute, 4/15/13 – 4/16/13, 6pm - 8am: The lock on an office door was pried open. It does not appear that anything was stolen
Credit, Check, Identity Theft, Other Fraud
1000 block of Coachman, 4/3/13, 4:13 pm: The complainant was notified by Chase Bank that her debit card account number was used to make a fraudulent $1536.99 purchase at a Best Buy store in Minnesota.
500 block of Biltmore, 3/31/13, 12 pm: The complainant owns a rental house on Biltmore. The renter advised him that people coming to the house and looking in the windows. They advised her that the home was listed for rent on Craigslist. The complainant has learned that someone fraudulently listed the home for rent on Craigslist and has attempted to get deposit money and personal information from perspective renters.
4000 block of Cherrywood, 12/3/12: Complainant reports that on 12/3/12 she responded to a help wanted ad on Craigslist. She was sent an advance check for $2450 along with instructions to send $700 of the money back to an address in the Ukraine. After sending the money overseas, the complainant’s bank advised her that the check she had deposited was fraudulent.
100 block of Millstone, 3/25/13: The complainant had not yet filed his income tax return when he received a letter from the IRS advising him that his return was under review. He contacted the IRS and learned that a fraudulent return had been filed using his name, address and social security number.
2000 block of Dorchester, 4/10/13, 2:51 pm: The complainant states that he was notified by Capital One Credit that someone had fraudulently applied for a credit account using his identity but a different address. The complainant suspects his identity may have been recently compromised when he supplied his social security number on a job application.
2000 block of Chanterell, 4/15/13, 10:09 am – 7 pm: Complainant reports that she received numerous phone calls from someone identifying themselves as a federal agent. The caller told the complainant that she owed the government money and she would be arrested while her home and assets would be seized unless she paid the amount owed. As directed, the complainant purchased numerous Green Dot pre-paid credit cards and gave the caller the card numbers over the phone. Over the course of a day, the complainant bought and provided the caller with the numbers for $23,178 worth of pre-paid credit cards.
2000 block of Lovington, 3/18/13: When the complainant received a phone call from a collection agency attempting to collect $880.03 due on a Comcast Cable account she learned that someone had opened an account on 7/23/12 using her identity.
2000 block of Isabell, 4/1/13: Resident reports that an unauthorized withdrawal, in the amount of $870.50, was made from his checking account on 4-1-13. He does not know how his account was compromised.
3000 block of Estates, 4/11/13: The complainant reports that someone opened up two wireless phone accounts using his name and social security number. On 4/11/13 he received a letter from Verizon thanking him for setting up paperless statements. The complainant does not have a Verizon account. On 4/15/13, he received a statement from AT&T indicating he owed $350 on an account. The complainant has learned that the account was opened in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
2000 block of Michele, 4/15/13, 10:30 am: When the complainant attempted to e-file his taxes was notified by the IRS that someone using his name and social security number had already filed a return.
Domestic/Family Trouble
Troy Officers responded to 12 incidents involving domestic disputes or family troubles during this reporting period. On-scene investigation of these incidents did not result in evidence of crimes being committed; however, Officers were required to take non-enforcement actions to either mediate the situation or keep the peace. Readers should be aware that although these incidents did not result in arrest or prosecution, they do represent significant law enforcement resources in terms of time, on-scene investigation, potential relocation of disputants, referrals to support agencies, peace keeping, as well as detective and prosecutorial review.
Drugs/Narcotics
Oakland County Probation Office, 1151 Crooks, 4/3/13, 3:31 pm: Troy Officers were dispatched to the Probation Office to arrest a 21-year-old Madison Heights man on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for larceny. When officers arrived they learned that he was in possession of narcotic paraphernalia and a Class III prescription narcotic that he does not have a prescription for. He was charged with “Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia” and “Possession of a Controlled Substance.”

Driving Under Influence of Alcohol/Drugs
E Big Beaver & Rochester, 4/3/13, 1:03 am: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle that was driving erratically. The driver smelled of intoxicants and had slurred speech. The driver, a 32-year-old Royal Oak woman, failed sobriety tests and was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated.” A blood test was administered and results are pending.
Rochester & E South Blvd, 4/3/12, 11:42 pm: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle that was weaving and nearly hit a curb. The driver had watery/glassy/red eyes and smelled strongly of intoxicants. The 27-year-old Troy male failed sobriety tests and was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated.” A blood test was administered and results are pending.
E Big Beaver & Dequindre, 4/4/13, 8:50 pm: Troy Officers were dispatched to a non-injury accident. The driver whose vehicle had been struck stated that the at-fault driver appeared to be intoxicated and was attempting to hide under his vehicle. Officers arrived, leaned down and spoke with the at-fault driver who had poor balance and needed to lean on his car for support. The 55-year-old male from Madison Heights had slurred speech, constricted pupils and was nodding off/falling asleep. After failing sobriety tests, officers arrested him for “Operating under the Influence of Drugs.” He was transported to an area hospital where a blood test was performed. Results of the blood test are not yet available.
I-75 & Crooks, 4/6/13, 1:58 am: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle that was weaving and traveling at 100 miles-per-hour. The driver smelled of intoxicants but denied consuming alcohol. After failing sobriety tests, the 17-year-old Troy female was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated.” A breath test was administered and results were .08%. A 16-year-old male from Bloomfield Hills who was a passenger in the vehicle had also been consuming alcohol. He was turned over to a family member and will be petitioned to Oakland County Probate Court for “Minor Possessing or Consuming Alcohol.”
Rochester & E Wattles, 4/6/13, 3:57 am: Troy Officers were dispatched to a report of an injury accident. Information was received indicating that a car had struck a tractor trailer and that following the accident the driver of the car had fled the scene on foot. Officers located the driver about a quarter mile from the accident scene. He was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech and smelled strongly of intoxicants. The 29-year-old Troy resident was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and charged with “Operating While Intoxicated” and “Failure to Stop and identify at an Accident.” A blood test was administered and results are pending.
I-75 & W Fourteen Mile, 4/10/13, 12:17 am: A Troy Officer monitoring traffic on I-75 observed a vehicle lose control and travel off the roadway and into the median ditch. Officers made contact with the driver who had not been injured. The 31-year-old Royal Oak woman had slurred speech and failed sobriety tests. She was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated” and breath test results were .23%.
E Long Lake & Livernois, 4/10/13, 11:55 pm: After Troy Officers stopped a vehicle on traffic violation they discovered the driver had bloodshot/glassy eyes and smelled slightly of intoxicants. The driver stated he had a margarita at dinner and six shots of tequila since then. During sobriety testing the 59-year-old Troy resident had slurred speech and poor balance. He was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated” and breath test results were .08%.
E Fourteen Mile & Executive, 4/12/13, 12:52 am: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle that was traveling eastbound in the left westbound lane of Fourteen Mile. The driver smelled of intoxicants and had bloodshot/glassy eyes. The 42-year-old male from Sterling Heights had very poor balance and failed sobriety tests. A blood test was administered; results are pending.
E Maple & Dequindre, 4/17/13, 12:45 am: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle that was weaving, making abrupt steering corrections and drove on the lane divider. The driver, a 28-year-old Sterling Heights resident, said he had taken anti-anxiety medication, prescription pain reliever, and had smoked marijuana a few hours prior. After failing sobriety tests, he was arrested for “Operating under the Influence of Drugs.” A blood test was administered; results are pending.
Larcenies
Metroline, 2250 Meijer, 3/29/13 – 4/1/13, 7pm - 7:45 am: Two full 40 pound propane cylinders were stolen from a secured exterior storage cage.
Greshams, 155 E Elmwood, 4/3/13 – 4/4/13, 10pm - 4am: Two storage trailers located in the rear lot were broken into and a large amount of landscape equipment was stolen.
Saks Fifth Avenue, 2901 W Big Beaver, 4/6/13, 6 - 7 pm: Complainant states he briefly put his Apple iPhone down to look at some merchandise and speak with a salesperson. When he returned his phone was gone.
1000 block of Kirts, 4/2/13 – 4/5/13, 3am - 5:30 pm: Resident states that his gray men’s Giant Roam hybrid bicycle was stolen from the basement of his apartment complex where he had left it chained to a pole.
6000 block of Norton Drive, 3/13/13 – 3/14/13: Homeowner reports that an envelope containing an outgoing check for bill payment was stolen from her mailbox.
Café Sushi, 1933 W Maple, 4/14/13 – 4/15/13, 11:30 pm – 10 am: A complete power ventilator exhaust fan and the motor only from a second exhaust fan were stolen from the roof of the restaurant.
Troy Community Center, 3179 Livernois, 4/15/13, 8 pm – 9:30 pm: The complainant reports that his Apple iPhone and $200 cash were stolen from his gym locker. The locker had been secured with a combination lock.
Larcenies from Autos
Sharp Concepts, 999 Rankin, 3/30/13 – 4/1/13, 4pm - 7am: Four company vehicles were broken into; power tools were stolen from three of the vehicles.
Troy School District, 1140 Rankin, 4/1/12, 8:30 am: A window was removed from a District owned van; two meter gauges, a pair of overalls and a jacket were stolen. A window was smashed on a second van but nothing appears to have been stolen.
Edmunds Irrigation, 333 E Elmwood, 3/30/13 – 4/1/13, 2pm - 8am: Two vehicles owned by Edmunds Irrigation and three vehicles owned by Cervi Irrigation were broken into by smashing the rear windows. Copper fittings were stolen from all four vehicles.
Walmart, 2001 W Maple, 3/30/13, 12-1pm: The catalytic converter was cut off and stolen from the complainant’s Pontiac Aztek.
Christopher Thomas Construction, 330 E Maple, 4/2/13 – 4/3/13, 10pm - 5am: Windows were smashed on two company vehicles; a portable GPS unit and a large number of power and hand tools were stolen.
1000 block of Key West, 4/4/13 – 4/5/13, 11pm – 6:45 am: An Apple iPod was stolen from the complainant’s car. The car was parked in the complainant’s driveway at the time of the theft.
Oakland Plaza, 300 John R, 4/5/13, 12:30 - 5pm: The catalytic converter was stolen from the complainant’s Jeep Cherokee.
1000 block of Brooklawn, 4/6/13 – 4/7/13, 8am - 10am: Complainant reports that her purse and gym bag were stolen from her car.
Troy Community Center, 3179 Livernois, 3/29/13, 11:15 am – 12:30 pm: The catalytic converter was cut off and stolen from the complainant’s Chevrolet Venture.
Timberland III, 5445 Corporate, 4/16/13, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm: The right front grill assembly was stolen from the complainant’s Pontiac G6.
Malicious Destruction of Property
TV and Home Theatre Direct, 360 E Maple, 4/2/13 – 4/3/13, 10 pm – 5 am: The driver side window of a company van was smashed.
1000 block of Brentwood, 4/9/13 – 4/10/13, 6pm - 10am: The rear window of the complainant’s Jeep Commander was shattered; nothing was stolen from the vehicle. The rear window of a neighbor’s Chevrolet Trailblazer was broken and the vehicle’s rear bumper was dented. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle.
Troy Officentre, 340 E Big Beaver, 4/16/13 – 4/17/13, 3:50 pm – 12:05 am: The driver’s side door lock on the complainant’s Pontiac G3 was punched out. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle. The damage likely occupied during an unsuccessful attempt to steal the car.
Minors and Alcohol
1000 block of Crestline, 4/7/13, 12:51 am: Troy Officers were dispatched to the area when a neighbor reported seeing a group of teenagers lean a ladder up against a home and look into the window. When officers arrived at the home they discovered a party was underway and some of the underage partygoers had been consuming alcohol. Five teens under 17 years of age were turned over to their parents and will be petitioned to Probate Court for “Minor Possessing or Consuming Alcohol.” They are all Troy residents. Two teens over the age of 17 were issued citations for “Minor Possessing or Consuming Alcohol.” An 18-year-old male from Sterling Heights was arrested for “Minor Consuming Alcohol” and “Hinder and Obstruct a Police Officer” after he provided Troy Officers with a false name. When his real name was determined it was discovered that he also had an outstanding Troy warrant for failing to appear in court on a previous “Hinder and Obstruct a Police Officer” charge.

Sears, 300 W Fourteen Mile, 4/3/13, 7:03 pm: Troy Officers issued a citation for “Retail Fraud III” to a 21-year-old Sterling Heights male who shoplifted a $60 golf jacket.
Kohl’s, 500 John R, 4/4/13, 12:15 pm: Troy Officers issued a citation for “Retail Fraud” to a 21-year-old female Troy resident. She concealed $600 worth of jewelry in the pocket of her jacket and exited the store without paying for the merchandise.
Kohl’s, 500 John R, 4/4/13, 8:03 pm: A 68-year-old man from Sterling Heights was arrested after he put a $95 pair of boots on and wore them out of the store. He was charged with “Retail Fraud II.” After he was fingerprinted it was determined that he had provided officers with a fake name. He was charged with “Hinder and Obstruct a Police Officer.” He has a lengthy criminal history and an outstanding warrant for retail fraud.
Gucci, 2801 W Big Beaver, 4/5/13, 4:50 pm: Store manager reports that a man concealed a $250 Gucci t-shirt in a shopping bag and exited the store without paying for the merchandise. The suspect is described a black male, approximately 6 foot tall and 225 pounds wearing a blue t-shirt and gray sweat pants.
Nordstrom, 2850 W Big Beaver, 4/5/13, 8:08 pm: An 18-year-old Troy woman was arrested for “Retail Fraud III” after shoplifting four shirts with a retail value of $93.60.
Neiman Marcus, 2705 W Big Beaver, 4/6/13, 2:49 pm: A 37-year-old Detroit woman was detained by Loss Prevention after they observed her shoplift six Burberry shirts, a True Religion brand hat and a Gucci bag. The retail value of the stolen merchandise is $2465. The woman had two young children with her at the time of the incident; they were turned over to a family member. Marijuana was found in her purse. She was charged with “Retail Fraud I” and “Possession of Marijuana.” She also has three outstanding arrest warrants issued by other area police departments. The suspect told officers that she had stole the merchandise to sell on the street.
Neiman Marcus, 2705 W Big Beaver, 4/6/13, 7:34 pm: Troy Officers arrested a 17-year-old Detroit male for “Retail Fraud” and a 21-year-old Detroit male for “Retail Fraud” and “Assault and Battery” after they shoplifted three Ferragamo belts with a retail value of $960. The 21-year-old assaulted a Neiman Marcus Loss Prevention Officer during apprehension.
Kohl’s, 1265 Coolidge Hwy, 4/7/13, 5:32 pm: Troy Officers arrested a 55-year-old Bloomfield Hills woman after she shoplifted $370 worth of jewelry. She has two previous retail fraud convictions.
Kohl’s, 500 John R, 4/7/13, 7:29 pm: A 28-year-old Lake Orion man was issued a citation for “Retail Fraud III” after shoplifting three clothing items with a retail value of $204. He had concealed the stolen merchandise under his own clothing.
AuCourant, 2801 W Big Beaver, 4/8/13, 9:21 pm: Store Manager reports that a man entered the store and after browsing asked to see a $1900 pair of Cartier sunglasses. After looking over the glasses several times the man suddenly ran out of the store taking the glasses with him. The suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 25 years of age, 5’8” tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark color hooded sweatshirt and tan pants.
Kohl’s, 1265 Coolidge Hwy, 4/9/13, 11:38 am: Troy Officers arrested a 57-year-old Royal Oak man after he shoplifted a belt, a pair of pants and 2 pair of underwear. The total retail value of the merchandise is $77.40. The arrested man has one previous conviction for retail fraud. He was charged with “Retail Fraud II.”
Kohl’s, 500 John R, 4/9/13, 6:48 pm: Loss Prevention reports that a 21-year-old male from Warren concealed a sterling silver necklace up his sleeve and left the store without making any attempt to purchase the item. When he was apprehended it was discovered that he was in possession of narcotic paraphernalia associated with heroin use. He was arrested by Troy Officers for “Retail Fraud III” and “Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.”
Macy’s, 500 W Fourteen Mile, 4/10/13, 9:25 pm: Loss Prevention detained two 16-year-old females from Royal Oak for shoplifting six articles of clothing with a retail value of $92.96. Both girls concealed stolen merchandise in shopping bags obtained at other stores within the mall. They were turned over to parents and will be petitioned to Oakland County Probate Court.
Kohl’s, 500 John R, 4/11/13, 2:48 pm: A 40-year-old female from Warren was arrested for “Retail Fraud II” after shoplifting two shirts. The woman put the shirts on in a dressing room and wore them out of the store.
Kohl’s, 1265 Coolidge, 4/15/13, 3:11 pm: A 19-year-old Detroit woman was arrested for “Retail Fraud II” after shoplifting eleven clothing items with a retail value of $346. She also has an outstanding warrant for retail fraud issued by a neighboring jurisdiction.
Home Depot, 1177 Coolidge Hwy, 4/15/13, 7:24 pm: A 4- year-old Livonia man was detained and issued a citation for “Retail Fraud III” after shoplifting $79.13 worth of plumbing supplies. He has two previous convictions for retail fraud.
Suspicious Incidents
5000 block of Buckingham, 4/16/13, 7:45 pm: A 9-year-old boy states that he was riding his bicycle when a black SUV pulled up next to him. Someone in the SUV asked the boy if he wanted a candy bar and then stated “if you want this candy bar you have to come in the car.” The boy immediately rode away. The vehicle is described as a black SUV with a rear spare tire occupied by four black males.
Miscellaneous
I-75 & W Fourteen Mile, 4/2/13, 8:33 pm: After stopping a vehicle for speeding a Troy Officer subsequently arrested the driver, a 32-year-old Savannah, Georgia man, for “Driving While License Suspended,” “Possession of Marijuana” and three outstanding misdemeanor warrants. The arrested man’s driver’s license has been suspended for more than ten years.
I-75 & Wattles, 4/3/13, 11:54 pm: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle for traveling 87 miles-per-hour on I-75. The driver, a 24-year-old male from Detroit, was arrested when it was determined that his driver’s license was suspended and marijuana was found in his car. His license is suspended due to 60 unpaid tickets and he has 28 outstanding warrants for his arrest.
E Maple & Stephenson Hwy, 4/9/13, 1:28 pm: After a Troy Officer stopped a vehicle that had an expired license plate he discovered the driver had a suspended driver’s license and six outstanding traffic warrants. The 33-year-old Detroit man has fourteen current suspensions on his license. He was arrested for “Driving While License Suspended” and “Expired License Plate.”
3946 Rochester, 4/15/13, 1:04 pm: A 2012 GMC Acadia that had been stolen in Des Moines, Iowa was recovered in the business parking lot. The vehicle was impounded and the Des Moines Police Department notified.
