This December, make Oakland County Market your one-stop shop for farm-fresh foods, one-of-a-kind gifts and festive decorations for your holiday celebrations. Choose from squash (acorn, sweet dumpling, buttercup and butternut), carrots, beets, parsnips, turnips, onions, cabbage, garlic and potatoes (subject to availability).
Tempt your taste buds with flavorful homemade jams, gourmet dips, chocolates, peanut brittle, pies, cookies, fudge, cupcakes and other treats. Fresh greenery, wreaths, grave blankets, and an assortment of jewelry and crafts are also for sale.

Sauteed Turnips and Parsnips with Rosemary
(Makes four servings)
Ingredients:
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
• 3 medium turnips (3/4 pound total), peeled and diced
• 3 medium parsnips (3/4 pound total), peeled, cored if necessary, and diced
• 4 medium shallots (1/2 pound total), cut lengthwise into sixths
• 1 garlic clove, chopped
• 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary
Directions:
1. Heat oil and butter in a 12-inch heavy skillet over moderate heat until hot but not smoking.
2. Add turnips, stirring occasionally, until crisp-tender, about 5 minutes.
3. Add parsnips and shallots and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and almost tender, about 10 minutes.
4. Add garlic, rosemary, and salt and pepper to taste and cook, stirring, until vegetables are tender, about 3 minutes longer.
Holiday season hours
The Oakland County Market will be closed Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25 through New Year’s Day, Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. The market will reopen on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013.
Regular market hours
Farmers market: 6:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday from May – December, Saturdays year-round.
Flea market: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sundays only.
