I recently traveled to S. Korea and Taiwan with a clear goal, bringing more jobs and investment to Oakland County.
During that trip, I signed a Sister City agreement with Taichung City, the second largest city in Taiwan. Through this partnership, we will connect global companies with local businesses and create opportunities to bring cutting-edge technologies to Oakland County.
Oakland County and Taichung City both have strong manufacturing roots, making this partnership a natural fit. Taichung is known as “Kingdom of Machine Tool” because of its companies focused on smart manufacturing, AI, robotics and green energy. Several important Taichung companies already call Oakland County home, including YCM, Sunspring Metal, and ISOQA Technical Service.
Signing the agreement is just the beginning. In the coming years, we will build on these connections to attract investments and explore opportunities for educational and cultural exchanges.
Closer to home, there is another important update I want to share. Our county website address has changed from OakGov.com to OaklandCountyMI.gov. County email addresses now end in @OaklandCountyMi.gov, too. Whether you’re looking up information about a county program or emailing one of our employees, look for that .gov ending.
Because .gov domains are reserved for verified government organizations, this change provides added protection and helps you identify official Oakland County websites and email addresses.
I’m grateful to our IT team for the work behind the scenes to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Grand Opening Celebration for Food Pantry Increases Access for Southfield Public School District Families
Oakland County Deputy Executive Madiha Tariq, on behalf of Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter, joined leaders from the Southfield Public School District (SPSD) and Ballmer Group, along with community partners, to celebrate the grand opening of a new food pantry aimed to increase food access for families of students enrolled in the SPSD. The pantry, located at the Kennedy Learning Center in Southfield, gives students and families convenient access to essential groceries on campus.
“Thanks to the leadership of County Executive Coulter, Oakland County is proud to partner with the SPSD and contribute to the opening of this food pantry to help reduce barriers that can stand in the way of a child’s success,” said Tariq. “When families are supported and kids have reliable access to food, students are better positioned to learn and thrive.”
Oakland County Purchasing Renewable Energy to Power Buildings
Oakland County is progressing toward its goal of reducing operational greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2035 and reaching net zero by 2050. The Hart Solar Project — which held its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday — will provide renewable electricity for 46 county government buildings, plus multiple locations for the Water Resources Commissioner and the Parks and Recreation Department.
The Facilities Management Department estimates that using renewable energy may save more than $300,000 a year — or about $3.7 million over the life of the 10-year contract, as compared to current utility rates. This estimate may change due to volatility in energy markets.
