As we take a moment to reflect on the season and all the joy that it brings, I’d like to offer a few things I’m thankful for this year.
I’m grateful for my family and friends and the time we’ll get to share in the coming weeks, starting with Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. And by the way, who’s got mashed potatoes on their list?
I give thanks for the kind and generous people of Oakland County, who never miss an opportunity to lend a helping hand to those in need. From the people who emptied their kitchen cabinets and filled their grocery carts to help restock depleted local food pantries to those who are giving so generously of their time to volunteer - Oakland County residents show up.
Every day, I hear stories of Oakland County employees who do their jobs with grace and kindness and who always take the extra step to ensure our residents are getting the benefits, the services, the programs they need to stay healthy, get a job, live their best lives and succeed. I welcome and so appreciate those stories. They make me proud to work with such an incredible group of people.
I admire and value the partners I have in local, county, state and federal government. Elected officials at all levels from school boards to Congress are true public servants who sacrifice their time and, unfortunately, sometimes their safety, to represent you, the great people of Oakland County and the nation. They deserve and have earned our respect and our gratitude.
The thousands of businesses, big and small, in Oakland County are our partners. They employ our friends and family. They support our sports teams and school clubs. They are the engines that fuel our economy and just like our next-door neighbors, they are valued members of the community. Our hometowns wouldn’t be the same vibrant places without them.
On this day before Thanksgiving, I’m giving thanks and sending good wishes! Wishes for good food that fills your table, good health as you work and play, good times with family and friends and good deeds for those less fortunate.

Oakland County Employees Join Community Partners for Day of Service
Oakland County employees rolled up their sleeves Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, as part of the county’s annual Day of Service, volunteering at four nonprofit organizations that provide food assistance to families across Southeast Michigan. From sorting groceries to distributing Thanksgiving meal boxes, employees spent the day supporting neighbors in need ahead of the holiday season.
“With so many families experiencing food insecurity, Oakland County employees are stepping up in a meaningful way,” said Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter. “Their generosity reflects the best of public service, and I’m grateful to our nonprofit partners who work every day to ensure no one in our community goes hungry.”
