Prime vacation season is upon us, so there’s no better time to plan your next adventure.
And while it may be too late to find a place to rent up North or book a flight to a vacation destination, it’s always a good time to explore what’s available right in our own backyard.
I know, we don’t always think about Oakland County as a tourist destination. But the results of a recent study begs to differ.
Nearly 2,000 people from the region and surrounding states responded to the survey and told us their impressions of Oakland County from a tourism perspective. Ninety-nine percent of the people we surveyed said they want to visit again. With all we have to offer, can you blame them?
The report also analyzed Oakland County’s tourism potential. One key finding: “In 2024, the visitor economy generated $4.9 billion in total business sales and supported nearly 4.0% of all jobs in Oakland County.”
Now that’s significant.
Of course there are the main attractions that top the county’s list, like the family fun stops at the Detroit Zoo, Pine Knob and Meadowbrook, the Renaissance Festival, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Great Lakes Crossing; and the educational offerings at Cranbrook Science Center and the Zekelman Holocaust Center.
But visitors from across the region, state and nation, also point to our thriving downtowns, our abundance of lakes, county and state parks and trails and our off-road vehicle park in Groveland Township as a source of entertainment and fun?
Our welcome mat is always out for visitors looking for a day trip, a weekend of great food and exceptional shopping, a tranquil nature adventure or an enriching educational or cultural experience.
And that’s true for the homegrown tourists, as well. Oakland County is truly an amazing place that I’m proud to champion to all who choose to live here or visit.
Happy Fourth of July to all and cheers to your next summer excursion.
