Oakland County to Light Up Circuit Court Building Green in Honor of Veterans for Operation Green Light
County Partners with DTE Energy to Help Residents Light Up Their Homes Green

Nov. 8, 2024, Pontiac, Mich. – Oakland County will once again honor veterans by lighting up the Circuit Court Building at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac green from dusk until dawn, starting on Friday, Nov. 8 through Veterans Day on Nov. 11. This initiative is part of Operation Green Light, a nationwide campaign organized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO) to show gratitude and support for veterans.
Also, Oakland County Veterans’ Services, in collaboration with DTE Energy, will distribute 1,000 green light bulbs donated by DTE to residents who wish to participate in Operation Green Light by illuminating their homes green.
“Providing resources and programs for veterans is a top priority for Oakland County and the days leading up to Veterans Day are a perfect time for us to show that commitment to military members who have so bravely defended our freedom,” said Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter. “Operation Green Light gives us and our partner DTE Energy the chance to raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by veterans and highlight the resources available for them and their families.”
Veterans Services will distribute the green bulbs from DTE at the following events while supplies last:

Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. at the Ruck March at Centennial Commons, located at the corner of Third and Troy Streets in Royal Oak

Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m.at the Veterans’ Day ceremony in Royal Oak

Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Veterans’ Day ceremony in Lathrup Village
Sean Carlson, deputy county executive and a United States Air Force veteran, emphasized the importance of collaboration with local organizations.
“Oakland County is proud to support Operation Green Light, and the partnership with DTE Energy to distribute green light bulbs allows our community to join in expressing our gratitude. Let’s fill our neighborhoods with green light in solidarity and respect for those who have served,” Carlson said.
DTE Energy’s donation of the green bulbs was spearheaded by Cedric Flowers, DTE’s vice president of gas operations who is also an Air Force veteran.
“Supporting our veterans is a responsibility we take very seriously at DTE,” said Flowers. “These individuals have sacrificed so much for our country, and we are committed to supporting initiatives like Operation Green Light to demonstrate our appreciation for their service. This partnership with Oakland County allows us to show meaningful support, empowering veterans and their families.”
The county is home to more than 53,000 veterans. Oakland County Veterans’ Services’ mission is to obtain the maximum veteran benefits available to veterans and their family while making the process as simple and understandable as possible. The county provides these services at no charge.
